How does politics affect me?

This is the first time many of you will get the chance to make your voice heard in a local election.

Why wouldn’t you want to have your say?

Who should decide about the future of important services such as social housing, transport and leisure centres, and about new building developments in your area?

Why shouldn’t it be you?

You don’t need to be an expert. Every adult gets to vote regardless of how much they know about politics. And this time, for the first time, 16 and 17 year olds get to vote for their councillors too – and you can hold them accountable when they’ve taken up their seats.

It’s time to make yourself heard…

Get registered on gov.uk

Register to vote by 14th April 2022. If you don’t register in time, you won’t get to vote in the local elections on 5th May, and you won’t have your say in the future of your community.

Head over to the Gov.uk website to register to vote today. It only takes five minutes!
